Our third day in Wyoming was spent horseback riding. We spent all day going through valleys and grassy plains. We started the trip in the morning around six thirty. We drove for about a half an hour to get to our destination. There was nobody on the road except for people looking for animals that were only out at the crack of dawn. All of the horses were lined up along side the trailer. They were tall, beautiful horses which were either brown or spotted. We started out and walked our horses in one direction which seamed like miles. We approached herds of buffaloes grazing and rolling around in dirt. Our tour guide said that he has seen bears in the morning and that we could approach one on our trail. My brother was now excited that we might actually see a bear up close, but my mother didn't wish to be dazzled by the sightings of any bears. After about half way through horseback riding, we stopped and ate lunch. We had sandwiches and trail mix on a hillside under a shady tree. Our lunch was soon interrupted by two buffalo who came to rub their fur off on the side of the tree we were sitting under. They do this during the summer to remove all of their winter long fur. We were amazed that the buffalo came so close to us. We backed away since they can be very aggressive and unpredictable. My whole family was amazed that the horses were not spooked and just kept eating the grass. After taking a million pictures of the buffalo, we continued our horseback riding trip. We went over small streams where we let the horses rest and drink. While stopping, my brother found buffalo bones, teeth, and wads of buffalo fur. He quickly got off of his horse to grab a few bones and teeth. Only a ten year old boy would think gross, decaying body parts are worth bringing back as a souvenir.
